POSITION Title Specialist

The Center for NYC Neighborhoods (the “Center”) promotes and protects affordable homeownership in New York so that middle- and working-class families are able to build strong, thriving communities. Established by public and private partners, the Center meets the diverse needs of homeowners throughout New York State by offering free, high-quality housing services. The Center’s current projects support our policy goals and help to keep homeownership affordable by responding to the ongoing effects of the foreclosure crisis, the rising cost of homeownership, predatory scams, rising sea levels, and more extreme weather.
The Title Specialist, reporting to the Title Manager, will be responsible for reviewing and clearing property reports from our title vendor. The Title Specialist will work directly with Underwriting, Loan Application Processing, Quality Control and Closing staff to work together to resolve title issues, where applicable. The successful candidate will apply their knowledge of foreclosure prevention, loss mitigation, mortgage lending best practices and risk management to ensure that all property reports are processed within the guidelines of the lending product. The Title Specialist's key duties will include title pipeline management of their files, clearing title and production reporting. The Title Specialist is a full time, non-exempt position.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Monitor their pipeline to ensure processing times meet program goals and guidelines;
Recommend process changes and efficiencies to the Title Manager;
Assist with obtaining workout letters;
Monitor and review the production of NYS-MAP title documents to ensure accuracy, adherence to program guidelines;
Provide applicant and/or their advocate with timely and periodic status updates on their loan application;
Attend regularly scheduled pipeline meetings to discuss status of loans and actions to be taken;
Resolves title issues, such as: secured liens and/or judgments that show up on the title report that are not accounted for in underwriting assessment; unclear ownership of the property; and other reasonably related issues that cloud title and prevents the Specialist from clearing title;
Other tasks and duties reasonably related to job responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience;
2-3 years of experience working with residential mortgage lending, community development finance, mortgage lending/servicing, or government programs administration is required;
Experience with mortgage default intervention and loss mitigation options is required;
working knowledge and familiarity of loan origination documents, reinstatement letters, pay off letters, short pay off letters, loan modification agreements etc. is required;
Experience working directly with network partners, lenders and servicers to reach foreclosure prevention solution is required;
High level of proficiency with Word, Excel is required;
Experience with Salesforce, Bytepro or other LOS system is a plus;
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with diverse audiences, in both oral and written contexts;
Ability to bridge communication between technical staff and non-technical stakeholders;
Ability to work with high loan volumes under tight deadlines while maintaining high quality work;
Able problem-solver with good judgment and sharp analytical abilities; desire to root out and improve inefficient processes;
Superb organizational skills and keen attention to detail are a must.
