POSITION  Human Resources Intern

The Center for NYC Neighborhoods (“the Center”) promotes and protects affordable homeownership in New York so that middle- and working-class families are able to build strong, thriving communities. Established by public and private partners, the Center meets the diverse needs of homeowners throughout New York State by offering free, high-quality housing services. The Center’s current projects support our policy goals and help to keep homeownership affordable by responding to the ongoing effects of the foreclosure crisis, the rising cost of homeownership, predatory scams, rising sea levels, and more extreme weather.

 

Position Summary

The Center is currently seeking a Human Resources Intern will provide support to the Director of Human Resources and Administration and assist with special HR projects as assigned.  The internship will give the intern the opportunity to work alongside HR and other office staff to gain “hands on” experience in Human Resources and office administration. Internships can be full time or part time (a minimum of 20 hours per week) and will be based from our office in New York, NY. The Intern will report to the Director of Human Resources and Administration.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Review all new hire files to ensure all documentation and forms associated with new hires (i.e. I9, Tax forms, Benefits etc.) are included with the employee files and entered in the system;

  • Coordinate and schedule orientation meetings and other onboarding trainings;

  • Create and monitor a list of missing documentation that needs to be collected from new hires;

  • Provide Timesheet assistance;  remind employees to complete and managers to approve timesheets; provide timesheet trainings and support;

  • Answer HR phone lines, file, fax, and copy as needed;

  • Maintain employee personnel files to ensure legal compliance and maintain accurate records in our HRIS system;

  • Assist with benefits support, changes, enrollments;

  • Post job announcements internally and list available opportunities externally on appropriate job sites;

  • Coordinate with communications to ensure that job opportunities are posted on the Center website and removed when they are filled;

  • Assist with the recruitment process; conduct telephone interviews, as needed.

  • Calculate hours and overtime and prepare reports on a bi-monthly basis;

  • Keep track of vacation and sick time accrual;

  • Help gather feedback on new HR initiatives and present findings to the Director of Human Resources and Administration

  • Assist the Director of Human Resources and Administration with daily responsibilities;

  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

 

Skills & Experience Required

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Powerpoint, Word);

  • Familiar with Google apps, G-Suite

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills;

  • General knowledge of human resource concepts and terminology;

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality;

  • Ability to multitask;

  • Must be well organized, detailed oriented, and possess good follow-up skills;

  • Strong interest in Human Resources;

  • Must be available for a minimum of twenty (20) hours a week;

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Human Resources or related field or; A graduate with a Bachelors in Human Resources Management or related field;

  • Prior office experience preferred



Salary

Internships at the Center are paid.
